Speak the TruthThroughout life, many people have exaggerated a previous experience that was encountered in order to gain a sense of credibility from the public. The person that continually does that is known as a false witness.

A perfect example of a false witness was exposed last week when NBC Nightly News host Brian Williams claimed that the helicopter that he was riding in was hit by an RPG missile in Iraq in 2003. However, a former military veteran came forward and stated that another helicopter in that convoy was hit instead of the one that Williams was being transported on.

For the past 12 years, Williams stretched the truth about his experience so that he could gain a better credibility from his viewers. As a result, he ascended to #1 in the network national nightly news spot on NBC ahead of CBS and ABC. However, this recent scandal will has already damaged his reputation and will more than likely lead to his resignation.

In the realm of spirituality, there are many people that have claimed to have been a part of some sort of major spiritual experience that changed their lives. Nevertheless, people have been known to exaggerate these experiences for the sole purpose of deceiving others for personal gain. For example, cult leaders such as Jim Jones and David Koresh stretched the truth so far that their followers unknowingly met a horrible fate.

To ensure that you are not led astray along your spiritual journey, you must learn how to discern when someone is stretching the truth or not. Reading, researching, and keeping track of current events will build up the amount of wisdom that is stored within you. Then, you will be able to evaluate what someone says to you is true or not. Also, the more wisdom that you accumulate will prevent you from becoming a false witness.
