Entering into a lifestyle of spirituality begins with some difficulty as one must retrain the mind from doing everything solely based upon physical ability to giving one’s conscience free reign to discipline the body.
The process of spirituality can be seen from the analogy of swimming at the beach. First, a person will dip his or her toe in to test the waters. Then, the person will walk out a little further in order to become more comfortable. Next, the person will begin to wade in the water waist-deep in order to prepare for the swim. Finally, the person becomes totally immersed in the water.
With the area of spirituality, you first must test the waters. You must see for yourself that going with your heart brings about better results than doing whatever you feel like doing in the moment.
Next, you will need to become more comfortable listening to your conscience. This type of listening does take some practice. Begin by learning from your own mistakes. Analyze what could have been done to prevent that mistake from happening. This self-evaluation will help to build up your conscience.
Once you begin this process, you will reach a point within your spirituality where the decisions you make are based more and more upon your conscience instead of being solely based upon your physical ability.
For example, you will see some of your minor habits change. However, there are still some deep-rooted things that negatively impacts your spirituality. You will begin to see improvements in some areas of your life, but you will still be stuck in a rut in other areas. You could be better at controlling your anger towards others, but still could be dealing with overcoming stress.
Here is where immersion becomes important because total healing only occurs once you become fully immersed within the principles of spirituality. You must choose to totally base the decisions that you make from your heart and soul instead of going with your first physical reaction.
Self-discipline is the key to making immersion happen within your life. Controlling your life will eliminate internal strife. Fasting is one thing that you can do in order to fortify your self-discipline. That’s why it is called a fast because it accelerates your spiritual wheels. Choose not to be half-hearted and become immersed in the properties of spirituality.
