Impartations of Wisdom: Stop what you’re doing

Bad Habits! written on multiple road signEveryone in this world has some sort of bad habit that he or she wishes would go away. Others looking into the situation seem to always give some half-hearted advice like, “Stop doing it!” Well, everyone knows that they need to stop doing the wrong things, but our bodies choose to continue the practice of the bad habit because a comfort zone has been developed.

To actually stop what you’re doing that is wrong, the solution involves a “mind over matter” process to take place within your heart and within your soul. A type of reprogramming must take place within the mind before a bad habit can be eliminated from your daily routine.

The idea for this article came from watching the trailer of the sci-fi action thriller that is supposed to be opening next month that is called “Chappie.” The movie is set into the future with the government creating robots that look to control the human race with oppressive tactics. To counteract that process, the people took one of the robots and reprogrammed it to defeat the other robots.

In order to dethrone the bad habits in your life, you will need to reprogram some things. Here are three simple things that you can do to ditch those bad habits.

1. Replace pride with humility. If you think that the world revolves around you, then you will not change your bad patterns. There are eight billion other people that share the earth with you. Instead of being arrogant, take the time every day to evaluate what needs to be rearranged within your life. The gradual changes that you make on a daily basis will eventually lead to a breakthrough.

2. Never remain satisfied. If you remain satisfied, then you will not move out of your comfort zone. A spirituality technique that works to keep that hunger burning is fasting. When you fast, then you are able to tune out what your body wants to do. That’s why it is called fasting because it causes for you to move faster towards your goals.

Before you fast, find a fast that is compatible with you because every person’s body type is different. Some people will do liquid-only fasts. Some people will do without food and liquids for a period of time. When I fast, I will go without food and water for 8-12 hours at a time. Find a fast that works for you because it gives your digestive system rest from time to time and because it boosts your metabolism.

3. Do not remain idle. When you are idle for too long, then you will always resort back to doing the wrong things. Time management is a resource that you must partake in on a daily basis. Keeping a balanced schedule between work and rest will maximize your effectiveness and your productivity upon this earth.

Hopefully, these three things will allow for you to get rid of those habits you have been trying to quit. Never give up!
